A baby hip seat carrier that has been saving the backs of millions of parents worldwide has been fast gaining traction for a more unlikely kind of cargo.
The Hipseat – our award-winning founding product that kickstarted the Hippychick family – has been a game-changer for parents, allowing them to carry their child in a comfortable and ergonomic way without putting strain on their back.
But what is it that makes this carrier so popular with parents across the globe?
Well, we’re about to share all on why the Hipseat is the best hip seat for your baby (and why it’s found a place in the hearts of camera operators, too!).
What is the Hippychick Hipseat?
Spurred from the mind of our founder, Julia Minchin, the Hipseat is a baby hip seat carrier whose job is to make life easier for parents and caregivers when carrying their little ones.
Rather than hoisting your little one around on your arm, the Hipseat evenly distributes their weight across your hips and back. The carrier fastens securely around your waist, with a padded seat for your baby to sit on, relieving strain and keeping you comfortable and pain-free.
The seat is padded, so it’s not only comfortable for you but for your child, too. They won’t feel the need to wriggle or squirm as much, making it easier for you to carry them around.
Plus, the Hipseat is designed with a slight curve, so your baby’s legs can naturally wrap around your waist instead of dangling uncomfortably.
Hippychick Hipseat Reviews
“As a Chiropractor and a mother of one year old son I have a professional and personal understanding of how the back can suffer carrying little ones around. I always recommend the Hippychick Hipseat to all of my patients with children of appropriate ages.” – L. Smith, Chiropractor |
What Are the Benefits of Using a Hip Carrier?
|
As we’ve already touched on, the main benefit of using a Hipseat carrier is that it evenly distributes your child’s weight, taking the strain off of your back and spine.
As your little one becomes not-so-little, it can become more and more difficult to carry them around for long periods of time, especially when you’re travelling around with your child and they’re constantly hopping on and off your hip.
Relieves Pressure & Discomfort For You
But with a Hipseat carrier, you can comfortably hold your child for extended periods of time without feeling the physical strain.
Whether you’re at a playdate, running errands, multi-tasking, or going for a walk, having your child securely fastened to your body can make a world of difference, and you can let them down for a break whenever they need it.
Plus, the Hipseat carrier is designed with convenience in mind. It’s lightweight and easily adjustable, allowing you to find the perfect fit for both you and your child.
It’s even machine-washable, making it easy to clean up any messes or spills that may occur during your daily activities.
Provides Comfort & Security For Your Child
Not only does the Hipseat carrier take the pressure off of your body, but it also provides a sense of security for your child.
They can feel safe and snug against your body, with their weight evenly distributed on the seat. This can also help prevent them from getting overstimulated or overwhelmed in crowded or noisy environments.
But the benefits of using a Hipseat carrier go beyond just physical comfort and convenience.
By keeping your child close to you, you are also fostering a strong bond attachment. This can have positive effects on a child’s emotional development, helping them feel loved and secure in their environment.

What Age Range Is the Hipseat Carrier Suitable For?
Our baby hip carrier is suitable for children from 6 months up to 36 months of age, with a weight limit of 20kg. This makes it a versatile and long-lasting option for busy parents who want to stay active with their little ones.
How Do You Use the Hipseat Carrier?
As with all of our products, the Hipseat Carrier is designed to be as easy and hassle-free as possible for parents to use.
Although named the ‘Hipseat’, this carrier should actually sit on your waist.
- Take the carrier and wrap it around the back of your waist.
- Breathe in gently, and wrap the part of the carrier with the soft velcro around your waist, ensuring a snug but comfortable fit.
- Grab the clip and bring it around your waist to clip onto the other side of the carrier.
- Tighten the strap as you need, making sure to pull the straps for a secure fit.
- You can then twist the carrier to whichever side you want your baby to sit on or even to the front if you prefer.
And that’s it! You can lift your baby up and place them onto the carrier seat, making sure their legs are comfortably resting on either side of the seat.
Why Camera Operators Also Love Our Hip Carrier!
Here at Hippychick, we’re all about getting the most out of our products, and we were happily surprised when we received a series of unsolicited emails from camera operators telling us how much they love our Hipseat for their equipment!
Patrick Acum, from silvernitratefilmsltd.com said…
“I’ve just ordered my second Hippychick seat, as I lost my first one on location. I know a number of camera operators have been using the Hipseat as a camera platform for shooting from the hip.” “It’s a fantastically useful bit of kit. My favourite shooting style is handheld. When you’re filming someone standing, it’s easy to have the camera on your shoulder, but if you’re shooting people around a table, you need to have the camera at eyeline but still be able to move, so you can’t just sit down.” “This is where the Hipseat is amazing, and there’s not anything else I’m really aware of that fills this niche. The Hipseat is really well made and easily stands up to the rigours of filming – the belt and rigid framework very well. It’s also fantastic value for money compared to film kit, which is always insanely expensive.” |
Gareth Gwynn, a South Wales-based freelance broadcast camera operator, also said…
“I bought a Hippychick Hipseat on a recommendation from a fellow cameraman and found it to be invaluable in supporting the weight of the broadcast camera whilst filming ‘hand-held’. This ,of course, isn’t what it was intended for, but can I just say thank you for creating a sturdy, well-built product!“ |
Our Founder and Managing Director, Julia Minchin, said:
“This is not an initiative that we’ve orchestrated. These camera operators are a new audience that have grown entirely organically.” “We understand that many of them have upcycled their Hipseats, which they originally purchased for the purposes of baby carrying. As a business entirely committed to sustainability, we are delighted to know that our products are being kept alive in such an inventive way instead of being discarded once they’ve been outgrown.” |
If that’s not a testament to the quality and durability of our Hipseats, then we don’t know what is!
