Easter egg hunt
We think every Easter should involve at least one Easter egg hunt but they don’t have to become hugely costly. You can pick up a bag of small chocolate eggs for around £1 from most supermarkets. Have fun making your own Easter basket using by decorating small cardboard boxes or adding a handle to a paper bowl you may have lying around. If you’d prefer to start from scratch the website Twinkl offers a free downloadable Easter basket template. Simply sign up for a free account and download here. Print out, decorate and stick together.
Crack the egg game
The Five Minute Mum is the Queen of super simple, easy to set up games and she’s put together a cracker (pun intended!) here for Easter. Wrap whatever you want to be inside your egg (this could be a note, small toy, chocolate treat) then pop these inside egg shaped playdough balls. Pop these eggs in egg cups (you can wrap the whole egg in foil if you want to), arm children with a spoon and let them crack into them. If you want to extend the fun, or don’t have spare playdough at home, why not make your own? For a super simple ‘recipe’ simply combine two cups of plain flour and one cup of salt. Then add one cup of cold water and one tablespoon of oil and any food colouring of your choice. Mix well and then knead.
Make your own bird feeder
Give the birds a gift this Easter with a tasty a bird feeder. The weather can be so changeable this time of year the birds will still welcome a tasty treat. Cut a large orange in half and scoop out the middle, poke a wooden kebab skewer through each side for little bird perches, tie with string to hang up and fill your orange skin with bird seed. Once finished the whole feeder is completely compostable.
Create a pressed flower picture
Gardens are starting to come to life with Spring flowers and even if you don’t have lots in your garden it’s easy to collect daisies and dandelions on a local walk. This is a lovely craft activity to start at the beginning of the Easter break and finish at the end. Place picked flowers between two sheets of paper, pop some sheets of newspaper on top if you have some and then load up with heavy books. They will need two weeks to fully press and dry out. Take your pressed flowers and arrange them on a sheet of card and stick with PVA glue. You can seal your finished picture with sticky backed plastic if you want or pop in a spare picture frame for a new work of art.
Egg and spoon race
Always popular with the whole family simply head to the garden or your local park and set up a start and finish line. Just don’t forget your eggs and spoons! As well as simply running, you could also challenge each other to different types of races; why not hop? Bounce? Wriggle on your bottom? It may be worth hard boiling your eggs first if you want them to last a few races!
Easter nature trail
Even if its raining, a nature trail is always a popular choice simply wrap little ones up in a waterproof suit if need be. Can they find:
- Daffodil
- Blossom
- Insect
- Bird
- Worm
- Seedling
- Lamb
- Butterfly
- Frog
You can tailor the list to your location and weather. Either give them a list to tick off (pictures are super helpful for little ones) or even get them to help you create the list before you head out.
Have fun!
Whatever you do, Easter activities for kids really don’t need to cost the earth to bring lots of fun, laughter and smiles. Have fun and happy Easter!
