2011 sees our popular search for the UK’s next Mumpreneur return!
Last year we teamed up with Prima Baby magazine to launch the UK’s first ever competition to offer a winning Mumpreneur the once in a lifetime opportunity to see her idea brought to market. We could never have anticipated either the strength of the response to our search or just how innovative mums’ ideas would be.
At Hippychick, we pride ourselves on discovering the very latest and most innovative products for making family life easier, happier and more care free. So if you’re a mum that has used your own experience to come up with a really fresh solution to a common problem, or to invent a product you believe could be the next big thing, what are you waiting for? Make 2011 the year that you see your product hit the shelves of shops around the UK – just like last year’s winner Jane Wall-Budden has.
Last year’s success story
When Jane, mum to Bella (4) and Jamie (1), entered our competition last year she was dedicating every evening to making up ‘Bumpsters’ – her innovative take on the cot bumper. Frustrated at being unable to cope with the demand for her unique product she had no idea how to take her business to the next level. But entering and winning our competition changed all that. Now Bumpsters – mini bumpers that wrap around the individual cot bars to protect babies from knocks without restricting air flow through the cot - can be bought on our website as well as in over 50 stores throughout the UK, including the leading high street retailer, Boots.

All of this has been achieved since becoming our winning Mumpreneur!
Jane comments: ‘Nothing compares with the feeling of seeing your product on the shelves for other parents to buy! I honestly don’t think I could have done it on my own though. No matter how strong an idea, bringing it to market is incredibly complex and Hippychick’s support and expertise have been invaluable.’
This year's prize
The winning concept will be featured on our website, in our catalogue and represented at trade and consumer baby shows, while Julia and Jeremy Minchin (Hippychick’s MDs) will offer a year’s worth of business mentoring. The chosen Mumpreneur will also win a £500 makeover fund, £500 travel allowance and £100 worth of Hippychick vouchers.
How to enter
Entering couldn’t be easier! Simply choose from one of the following four categories to enter your product in (Sleep, Out & About, Everyday Essentials, Fun/Playtime) and then go to www.babyexpert.co.uk and complete our Mumpreneur competition form or send us your entry on a single side of A4 to the following address:

You will need to give the following information when entering the competition:
- Your name and age
- The names and ages of your child / children
- Your current or previous job title
- Your home address
- A description of your product (500 words max) including:
- A brief summary of your concept including any illustrations you feel might be helpful
- The inspiration behind it
- Where you see your main market being
- How far you’ve got progressing it (it doesn’t matter at all if it’s simply an idea at this point!)
NB – all entrants must be happy to be photographed and for their story to be used in positive promotion for their product.
